Thursday, August 7, 2008 (Westbrook) - Adults aren't the only ones at risk for identity theft. The number of children becoming victims of this crime is also on the rise. To inform members of this threat, Denise Ouellette, Vice President of Marketing at Central Maine Credit Union, a Lewiston, ME credit union with 8,600 members and $75 million in assets, called on Synergent Print & Creative Services. "Our credit union distributes quarterly inserts, messages and take-ones, and updates our website on issues such as fraud, phishing, and scams. This was one area we wanted to make our members aware of that we had not addressed." Working with Denise, Synergent's graphic designers created an educational piece that was just what she was looking for. This informative color insert shares the facts on child identity theft, and ways it can be prevented, including contact information for the three credit bureaus, information that Denise said was much appreciated by members. "Members are thankful for the information provided to them with this insert because they were not aware of the dangers of child identity theft. It makes them more aware of preventative measures they can take to protect their child's identity," she said.
Due to the important message of this piece, it is now a product offering available to all credit unions. Jeff Gray, Senior Vice President for Synergent, said that the way Print & Creative Service Representatives work closely with each credit union ensures that the they receive a design that exceeds their expectations. "This is a wonderful example of how this collaboration serves Central Maine Credit Union, while helping credit unions reach new audiences and work to protect their youngest members."
